In the 1860s, Dr. George Belden Crane set out to produce wines that could rival the best in the world from the then-unknown region of Napa Valley when he planted the G.B. Crane Vineyard in St. Helena. His vision set the tone for the years to come and shaped what Napa Valley has become today. With our Disciples wines, we aim to carry on his legacy by crafting wines from meticulously farmed vineyards located in rugged terrains and unique soil types—wines that embody the power and structure of our estate wines from the G.B. Crane Vineyard.
This journey began with our Disciples Red Wine in the 2014 vintage. Fast forward seven years to the summer of 2021, when we found ourselves in the midst of an incredible growing season. Thanks to the relationships we had nurtured beginning with that 2014 vintage, we were fortunate to come across some exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. These vineyards were almost too good to be true, making it impossible to say no. Starting with a small vineyard in St. Helena, near our G.B. Crane Vineyard, we are thrilled to announce our first Disciples Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon presents itself with a deep crimson hue, hinting at the richness within. On the nose, vibrant cherry and star anise are complemented by earthy notes, while delicate floral aromas of violets and lavender, accompanied by a subtle touch of menthol, create a beautifully layered bouquet. The warm, toasty oak adds depth and balances the bright floral elements. On the palate, the wine is impeccably structured, with fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity leading to flavors of juicy cherry, ripe plum, and blackberry, with a hint of red licorice for added complexity. The finish is long and gripping, indicating great aging potential, yet it also pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes at the table surrounded by friends.
