The 2018 Napa Valley growing season was, by all accounts, relatively mild and normal compared to previous years. A wet spring let to a larger than average crop, allowing us to selectively drop fruit to increase concentration and quality. We harvested the G.B. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon in the early mornings of October 22nd and 26th and employed a four-day cold soak and extended maceration on skins. Aged for 18 months in French Oak barrels, 75% of which were new.
Production 4 barrels
Blend Composition 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petite Sirah
Tasting Notes
The 2018 G.B. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon pours a purple-tinged maroon with a glowing cardinal rim. Soft yet powerful aromatics saunter from the glass with notes of ripe cassis, blueberry jam, cedar box, tobacco and Herbs de Provence. Voluptuous on entry, the palate exudes a balanced weight of blackberry and black cherry with a pleasing complexity of licorice, anise and leather. Finely textured with ripe tannins, the wine closes with depth and a lasting note of chocolate covered espresso bean.
